Yasmin Tablet is a combination birth control pill that contains two active ingredients, drospirenone and ethinylestradiol. These hormones work together to prevent pregnancy through several mechanisms. One of the primary mechanisms of action for Yasmin is the suppression of ovulation. Normally, a woman's ovaries release an egg each month during the menstrual cycle. Drospirenone and ethinylestradiol mimic the natural hormones involved in regulating this process, and they work to inhibit the release of an egg from the ovary. Yasmin also alters the cervical mucus, making it thicker and less permeable to sperm. This change in cervical mucus consistency makes it more difficult for sperm to travel through the cervix and reach the uterus. Ethinylestradiol, the synthetic estrogen in Yasmin, reduces the buildup of the endometrial lining (the uterine wall). This makes it less likely for a fertilized egg to successfully implant and develop into an embryo. As a result, periods become lighter and less likely to support a pregnancy. By utilizing these mechanisms, Yasmin helps to provide effective contraception. Additionally, Yasmin may have other benefits, such as regulating the menstrual cycle and reducing the severity of menstrual symptoms in some women.
